The Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine has as its central focus patients with comorbid medical and psychiatric illness and the interaction between them. This focus entails clinical work, research and teaching as well as leadership in the provision of medical-surgical psychiatry services.

 

Association of Medicine and Psychiatry

INTERMED Biopsychosocial care needs assessment

Cure and care of patients becomes complex when patients have multiple illnesses, specifically a combination of physical and mental disorders. These complex patients have multiple care needs, which often need to be addressed by several caretakers. These patients can be found among patients with chronic physical illnesses, the frail elderly, psychiatric patients with physical disorders, including the somatisers and patients who have physical illnesses and abuse alcohol or drugs. The INTERMED has been developed to assess interdisciplinary health risks and health needs.

 

The Research Unit for Functional Disorders at Aarhus University Hospital - Psychosomatics and CL Psychiatry

Functional disorders are defined as conditions where patients complain about physical symptoms for which no adequate medical explanation can be found. The overall objective is to improve the treatment possibilities for this group of patients. The unit is based on an interdisciplinary approach to functional disorders, as these are to be seen both from a psychiatric /psychological, a somatic, and a social angle. The unit is foremost a research unit focusing on research, development and education. However, the unit does have a secondary clinical function.
